Welcome!

We understand that as a volunteer, your time is valuable and you have a lot of demands on your time and energy. That's why we've worked hard to create a comprehensive training program that will not only meet the requirements of our organization, but also provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to effectively and safely serve the young people you will be working with.

This training program consists of five modules: An Introduction to Project Bloom, Child Protection, Basic Psychosocial Skills (delivered by an external organization), Cultural Competency and Professional Boundaries. Each of these modules is designed to provide you with important information and skills that will help you to be an effective and supportive volunteer.

The benefits of completing this training program are numerous. Not only will you be better equipped to serve the people we work with at a grass-roots level, but you will also have a greater understanding of the ethical and professional standards that are expected of volunteers. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and gain valuable insights into best practices in the field of mental health.

Instructions on logging-in to EdApp for the first time

EdApp is the platform where you will be completing the training. You can do the modules at your own pace.

There are a few ways to login. You may use either the web version (on your computer or your phone) or the EdApp mobile app. We recommend you download the app for convenience.

If you use your mobile phone to open the link, it will direct you to download the EdApp mobile app on either the App Store or Google Play. If you use your computer, it will direct you to the web version. Do note that you may use the web version (https://web.edapp.com/) on your phone browser as well. Q. Why do I need to complete mandatory training as a volunteer?

Answer: Completing mandatory training helps ensure that you are prepared and knowledgeable about the policies, procedures, and expectations of our organization, as well as the ethical principles and best practices for working with young people. It also helps ensure the safety and well-being of young people and volunteers.

Q. How long does the mandatory training take to complete?

Answer: The mandatory training consists of five modules and should take approximately 3 hours to complete.

Q. Can I complete the training at my own pace?

Answer: Yes, you can complete the mandatory training at your own pace. However, it is important to complete the training before beginning your volunteer work.

Q. Can I sign up for volunteering slots if I don't complete the training?

Answer: No, you will not be able to sign up for any upcoming volunteering slots as you will not be classified as a qualified volunteer.

Q. What's the minimum score to pass the training course?

Answer: Score 80% on each module, including the final quiz.

Q. Is this course required for all volunteers?

Answer: Yes. All new and existing volunteers who would like to offer their services at our opportunities, including at the NIMH, must complete the volunteer training (except for Cycle 1 in 2023). Please see the flowchart below to understand the new volunteering process at Project Bloom.

Q. I'm an existing volunteer, do I still need to do the training to continue volunteering?

Answer: Yes. This is a new requirement for you to be able to volunteer at our sessions. Existing volunteers have to meet this requirement to continue volunteering.

Q. Will I receive a certificate upon completion of the course?

Answer: Yes. After you have successfully completed the course, you will be issued a certificate of completion for your hard effort and time. You are free to list this certificate in your CV under 'Professional Development' or an equivalent section, and feel free to share it on your LinkedIn.

Q. Is the training offered in languages other than English?

Answer: Currently, the mandatory training is only offered in English. However, we are working on translating the training into Sinhala and Tamil and will update you when these resources become available. Please note that Module 3 is available in multiple languages, including in Sinhala and Tamil. If you face any problems while completing the training, please do not hesitate to reach out to your supervisor.

Q. Will I need to complete the mandatory training every year?

Answer: While it is recommended that you revisit the course content at least once per year to stay up-to-date on the policies, procedures, and best practices of our organization, this course is a one-off requirement and does not require an yearly renewal.

Q. Is there a cost associated with the course?

Answer: No. This course is 100% free for all volunteers.
